    Uses

It is used in following Applications:

Textile: Dyeing printing & stripping of vat dyes.

Bleaching Aid: Sugar,jaggery, clay, paper, soap and antibiotics/ analgesics( pharmaceuticals)

Reducing Agent: Chrome tanned/ vegetable tanned leather.

Preservative: Food

Reduction Bleaching Agent: Wool, Nylon and cotton.

 

   Safety & First aid

Swallowed:
Can cause nausea, vomiting & abdominal pain.

Eye:
Can cause severe irritation & potential permanant eye damage.

Skin:
Contact with skin can cause irritation.

Inhalation:
Dust may cause irritation of the respiratory tract.

 

First Aid

Swallowed:
Give milk, water or solution containing 2% sodium bicarbonate to drink. After 4 hours administer milk of magnesia at recommended dosage. Seek medical attention immediately.

Eye:
Immediately irrigate with copious quantities of water for at least 15 minutes. Eyelids to be held open. Seek medical attention immediately.

Skin:
Wash contaminated skin with plenty of soap and water. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before re-use. If irritation persists seek medical attention immediately.

Inhalation:
Remove victim from exposure – avoid becoming a casualty. Remove contaminated clothing and loosen remaining clothing. Allow patient to assume most comfortable position and keep warm. Keep at rest until fully recovered.
If breathing laboured and patient cyanotic (blue) ensure airways are clear
and have qualified person give oxygen through a face mask. If breathing has stopped apply artificial respiration at once. In event of cardiac arrest, apply external cardiac massage. Seek medical attention immediately.

 

Fire Fighting Measures

Fire Extinguishing Media:
In case of fire use dry soda ash/ sodium bicarbonate or fire extinguisher.Do not use water.

 

Special Features

Incompatibilities:
Have strong reduction and can be oxided if exposed to air. Avoid contact with acids, water and moist air. Avoid excessive heat.

Decomposition:
Decomposition compounds include toxic fumes such as sulfur dioxide. Contact with water results in the formation of sulfurous acid.

Hazardous Polymerization:
Will not occur.

Stability:
Stable under normal conditions. Violent decomposition may result if product is heated to 374° F(190 °C).
